How
are dynamics in music like the movements and connections in worship?
Pianissimo (ppp) and forte (f) carry musicians and listeners in
different ways? Listen to this bit from Beethoven? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIuN6aM3Cow&t=9s
Imagine worship in
your church as a "symphony" orchestra rehearsing its life before God?
What would music without changes in tempo, volume, and rests be like?
What about the dynamics of Christian worship? How do they form us and the church for our life in the world? How does worship and liturgy gathered around font, Word, and Table embody the risen Christ?
I will be teaching a course June 8-26, 2026 where we will explore how the dynamics of worship shape our lives and the life of the church using my book, Patterned by Grace: How Liturgy Shapes Us: Benedict, Daniel T.: 9780835899055: Amazon.com: Books. The course will be ecumenical in scope and approach focusing on the ecumenical liturgical consensus embraced by most mainline traditions: dynamics of the liturgy, baptism, the daily office, calendar and lectionary, and Eucharist.
